03 Jun How to Prepare Your AC Unit for Summer
Ever wonder about how you can help your AC unit get through the highest temperatures of the year? There are several steps you can take to help avoid an AC emergency and we’re happy to explain them to you! Preventative maintenance is the key to your unit’s longevity, so taking some time to give your unit proper care will go a long way.
Here’s how we recommend you prepare your AC unit for the summer:
1. Change your air filter.
Your filter is what stops dirt and debris from circulating through your unit and into your home, but over time, this can get clogged. When this airflow is no longer seamless, it puts more stress on your unit. Changing out your filter will let your unit run more efficiently, avoiding issues related to overworking itself.
2. Schedule a tune up.
Your AC unit should be getting maintenance performed twice a year– once in the fall and once in the spring. If you haven’t had your tune up yet, here is your sign to schedule! This maintenance visit will include an inspection to ensure your AC unit is in the best shape possible for the seasons ahead.
3. Don’t turn off your AC unit.
Some people will choose to turn off their AC units at night or when they’re not home, hoping to save money. We’d like to recommend you avoid this practice! Not only will this likely make your energy costs higher, but it will also place more stress on your unit to consistently have to cool your home from a hotter temperature.
4. Use smart technology.
There are so many options for smart technology to include in your home! We’re big fans of smart thermostats. You can program them to keep your home at the best settings for comfort as well as energy efficiency. Plus, you can control them on-the-go!
